My nephew Andrew is a wonderful pianist.

My approach was to have both realism and impressionism on the same canvas. I admire the work of Jennifer Gennari so I spent time on JJ's face, surrounding him afterwards with loose brush strokes.

I saw these flowers jammed into a canning jar and rather liked the effect. My flowers are somewhat abstract.

I love pencil 'cos it's so honest and non-boastful. Even a little hint like this one can be so rewarding. I just love art.

"Moonlit Birds" charcoal 5x7

I actually saw this then sketched it in charcoal. No, I don't think it's sinister or anything, I just see it as an extension of an artist's experience - if you're (say) a portrait painter in oils it is educational to use a different medium, what you learn does visit back to your home genre - portraits in oils for example.

"Tree at Michell's farm" w/c crayon 4x6

I am using the new watercolour crayons - you apply them dry on your Arches paper then use a wet brush to get that w/c effect. It's quick and easy, so much easier than the traditional approach to watercolour. You should try it....

At The Edge Of Enchantment

I painted in this magical place yesterday

and as I worked, salmon were

making their way upstream to spawn.

By mid morning the sun began to

filter into the canyon lighting

up the moss covered trees, coloured leaves

and sparkling the stream.

It was easy to feel the spirit of

Emily Carr dancing among the

trees and along the banks 

of the stream...
